Doors will open at 6:45 so we can share informal conversation and snack. Meeting will start promptly at 7:00
SNOW’s monthly meetings provide opportunity for various groups in the coalition to come together and plan. With the Afghanistan troop increase likely to happen in the spring; along with the start of the 7th year of the Iraq occupation, we need to develop strong strategies to be a voice for peace.

Clergy and pastoral staff are in a unique position to assist service men and women RETURNING FROM THE WARS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN and their families as they struggle with re-adjusting to life in the States. Come learn about post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and suicide, divorce and family issues, military and veteran culture, and referral and pastoral resources. This free workshop features speakers who will give an overview of the issues, signs and symptoms, family dynamics, related issues and appropriate referrals. Lunch is included. A free will offering will be collected. SUN FEB 7, 5 - 8 pm, Community Alliance for Global Justice's AGRA Watch presents a Film: "A Thousand Suns"
LOCATION:The Righi's home, 6002 Fremont Ave. N., Seattle;
This film tells the story of the Gamo Highlands of the African Rift Valley and the unique worldview held by the people of the region. This isolated area has remained remarkably intact both biologically and culturally. It is one of the most densely populated rural regions of Africa yet its people have been FARMING SUSTAINABLY FOR 10,000 YEARS. Shot in Ethiopia, New York and Kenya, the film explores the modern world's untenable sense of separation from and superiority over nature and how the interconnected worldview of the Gamo people is fundamental in achieving long-term sustainability, both in the region and beyond. Includes an analysis of the Gates Foundation's involvement in agriculture and AGRA. Followed by a discussion of the film. Ethiopian food will be served! Transition Initiatives are part of a vibrant, international grassroots movement that builds community resilience in response to the challenges of PEAK OIL, CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE ECONOMIC CRISIS. This summer we will begin a Community Discussion to explore The Transition Handbook: From Oil Dependency To Local Resilience by founder Rob Hopkins. Seattle 4 Iran will be hosting Fared Shafinury and Tehranosaurus on Feb 11th (Bahman 22nd) which is the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. It is anticipated that people in Iran will take advantage of the government-approved demonstrations to protest against all the crimes committed by the government, especially after the June 12th presidential election.
In anticipation of such unrest in Iran and another round of arrests and brutalities by the government on that day, to show our solidarity with the people in Iran, we will be hosting this evening with Fared Shafinury. Pittsburgh-based agitator Anne Feeney performs music that she says is designed to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.”
LOCATION: 8611 11th Ave SW, West Seattle
Feeney’s bottomless song-bag draws on Irish, bluegrass, traditional, labor, pop, folk and contemporary material. She’s as likely to sing a traditional song or an obscure gem by one of her many friends in the singer/songwriter circuit as she is one of her own award-winning songs. Feeney’s anthem, “Have You Been to Jail for Justice?” is featured on Peter, Paul and Mary’s CD, “In These Times,” and also on “Carry It On,” – their 5 CD boxed set. That song was also featured in “Get Up/Stand Up: The History of Pop and Protest,” a documentary featuring the greatest protest songs of all time, which aired nationally on PBS, and worldwide.
